Henry Chapman Mercer, Bucks County native, was a leader in the Arts and Crafts Movement which permeated the nation's museums and galleries during the early 1900's.  Mercer, a tile-maker, archeologist, artist and collector of antiques, built three architectural gems... in Bucks County... Fonthill Castle, his private home, The Moravian Pottery and Tile Works, his tile factory, and The Mercer Museum, which housed his collection of American artifacts.  A conservationist at heart,  he established a large arboretum filled with native PA plants on the grounds of Fonthill Castle.   While his interest in Pennsylvania German Pottery resulted in a vast collection of unique pieces, his tile factory produced architectural tiles earning global acclaim.
