In 1752, a congregation of early German
settlers organized die Bergkirche. German was the language used
by the congregation until 1852. An early photograph shows the
Church adjacent to the cemetery, although a township road now
bisects the property.
The
Church is located at 850 Hill
Church Road, in Derry Township and is documented on the map
of Derry Township in the Dauphin
County Historical Atlas
of 1875, p. 69. Although
the cemetery is beautifully maintained by St.
Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church,
it is no longer possible to read many of the old stones. It is
believed that at least one veteran of each war from the French
and Indian War to the Gulf War are buried there. Non-church members
can also be buried here.
Donald
Koons recorded the cemetery in 1981. About 325 burials are listed.
In addition to the usual cemetery information, we have in our
collection a list of births that we have decided to include with
the cemetery listing as this list provides additional data for
researchers. There will be no date of death, of course but the
database will provide names of parents and many surnames new to
the database.

We
would be happy to conduct a cemetery search or do more extensive
research for you. The cemetery search would include all
Derry Township cemeteries plus others that are closely associated
with our township. Most of the names in our cemetery
database are not available elsewhere on the Internet. The
cost is $5 per surname and you may supply up to three alternate
spellings (total of four). If you find your ancestors in the
list below and require additional information, please contact
us .
For
more thorough research, please request a copy of our research
policy. In addition, our obituary
list and our name index of
“lost and found” ancestors may be of interest to you.
Please check our main library
page for these and other links,
as we continue to update our information on line.
