"A Night at the Old Barn"

The Hershey-Derry Township Historical Society invites the public to celebrate 75 years of Hershey history by commemorating the anniversary of the Hersheypark Arena at the 15th annual Preservation Dinner, December 2, 2011.

“A Night at the Old Barn” will feature cocktails, dinner, silent auction, tours and moving presentations that chronicle the history of the Arena.  An extensive collection of Hershey Bears and Hersheypark Arena memorabilia will be on display.

The keynote speaker is legendary sports commentator and former Hershey resident, Mike Emrick, who is noted mostly for his work in ice hockey. Emrick is currently the lead play-by-play announcer for the New Jersey Devils on MSG Plus, as well as the lead announcer for NHL national telecasts on both NBC and Versus. Among the many awards he has received is the NHL's Lester Patrick Award in 2004, making him the first of three people to receive the award for media work, and the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award by the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2008. This fall will begin Emrick's 39th year in hockey play-by-play, and his 32nd in the NHL. He spent five years in Hershey when he announced for the AHL.

"This year's Preservation Dinner will be a trip down memory lane for anyone who had ever experienced an event at the historic Hersheypark Arena," said Nicole Soliday, executive director of the Hershey-Derry Township Historical Society. "We'll celebrate the Hershey Bears, Ice Capades, Wilt Chamberlan's historic basketball game and many other milestones in addition to personal reflections from community members," she added.

Tickets are $75 and are limited. To request additional information  or to purchase tickets, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it   or call 717-520-0748. All proceeds benefit the Hershey-Derry Township Historical Society.
