The Derry Township Historical Society is home to over 50,000 artifacts and photos.  Browse  through our museum and learn about the early settlers of Derry Township and the community of Hershey

We are currently located in the barn at the old Milton Hershey School home and farm #35, Pinehurst, pictured above in the early years.

.

Our Pre-Hershey Room represents the natives who lived in Derry Township as well as those settlers who first came to this country from abroad.  See our native American display, a comprehensive collection of early farm implements and household utensils.

The Villages of Derry Township room takes you back in time, visiting our early communities, many of which make up present day Hershey.

See the exhibit, "Before There Was Chocolate, There Was Stone", featuring the early local industry that supplied brownstone from New York City as far west as St. Louis.

The Hershey room is an overview of the man behind the chocolate bar and the town he founded for his employees.  Mr. Hershey was a philanthropist of the best kind.  Up until his time, chocolate was only available to the wealthy people of the world.  He wanted to make a good milk chocolate treat inexpensively, so all people could enjoy its wonderful flavor.  When he chose this area for his chocolate factory, he also planned to build a town that would be a place for his workers to live and play.  In 1903 the factory was started and the town soon followed.

Wander down memory lane through the early years of the Hershey community.  See our many display cases of Hershey nostalgia of years gone by.
