This early cemetery is located behind
the residence at 1237 Middletown
Road, on the south side of
a dirt road that is just south of Country Market, in the southwestern
part of Derry Township. A short stone walk leads from
a neighbor's field and back yard, through vines and overgrowth
to hidden burial grounds in the woods. Because of the heavy overgrowth,
the cemetery is dimly lit, making an accurate reading more challenging.
A number of stones are caked with mud and lying face side down.
Many
of the stones are written in German script, broken, and/or impossible
to read. According to a neighbor, descendants of some of those
buried there maintain the burial ground about once a year. The
cemetery is documented on the map of Derry Township in the Dauphin
County Historical Atlas
of 1875, p. 69.

The
list of those buried here, according to information available
on the Internet, has been compiled from a number of lists: a list
from the Mennonite Historical Society, a list by Roger V. Landis
and others who are unidentified, and a list from the Londonderry
Landis Cemetery in Dauphin County. Another list has been on the
Internet for a number of years. All of these lists are believed
to be the same cemetery.

As
usually happens when a number of lists have been compiled by a
variety of recordings, and each at a different state of weathering
of the stones, the compiled list will contain many duplications,
some of the same names with conflicting dates, and at least one
individual with the same dates and names of parents but with a
different last name.
The
oldest recorded burial is April 30, 1785. Many of the surnames
in this cemetery are familiar entries on the Warranty Map, Glass
Tax (or Direct Tax) Roll of 1798, and the Map of Derry Township
of 1875.
