Historical Society Collections Now Accessible Online

Hershey-Derry Township Historical Society is pleased to announce that many items in our collections are now accessible online! To effectively share our collection with the public, the Society has launching an online collections website using a program called PastPerfect Online. This program is an online version of the database that is used in-house to organize collections. Hundreds of catalogue records and images can now be searched and viewed on this new website.

Our Society is still in the early stages of preparing our collections for viewing online. Each object must be reviewed for accuracy and clarity prior to publication. This is a time-consuming task but our Photo Archivist, Joanne Kirchmer, has been working hard and doing an outstanding job.

We are currently focusing on sharing our photographs but plan to expand to other areas in coming months. To date we have published over a 1,500 images for search and viewing. This is but a fraction of the 26,000 images already digitalized and being prepared for publication. Each month we expand our PastPerfect Online site by adding new content.

Notable photograph collections already available include: aerial images of Hershey, Chocolate company buildings, the Convention Hall, many homes around town, the Park and Hotel, and numerous images of the wonderful trolleys that provided transportation to local residents. There are also classic, seldom seen images of the Cocoa Inn that are viewable online. Of course, this is but a fraction of our collection.

You can view these collections by visiting hersheyhistory.pastperfectonline.com or by clicking the link on the home page of our organizations web site (www.hersheyhistory.org). As always, members are welcome to stop in to the Society to view our total photographic collection.
